I have a fido phone and want to port the number to my new 7-11 phone. How can I do that? Should I call fido first since my agreement will expired untill tomorrow (Sep.26)? and I don't want to get one more month bill from fido.

I did not even have to ask them to "waive" the charge. It was not mentioned.

She said that when you port over, you're just moving your number over so you're still using the same number and that isn't the same as changing your number. Flawlessly logical, eh? 🙂

From what I'm gathering:

Porting in from another service (such as Bell) would be free.

Changing your number within 7-Eleven (if you purchased it in Toronto and want a Montreal number) is allegedly $10 from the brochure, but some people have gotten this done for free...

I asked customer service twice about this and both times I was told that porting over would cost nothing.

Okay, technically, porting your number over to Speakout effectively changes your pre-existing Speakout number, but it's not exactly the same thing as asking customer service to change your Speakout number to some other non-ported number (which would cost you $10 as stated in the brochure).

BTW, I'm just guessing with the above paragraph, but it seems to make sense to me.
