I just ported my number from Speakout to Rogers.

When I signed up with Rogers, they took my phone number and IMEI number from my Speakout phone.

There was a problem and Rogers called me the next day. They wanted to double check the IMEI information. I verified with Rogers that they had the correct IMEI from my phone. They Rogers rep asked me to call Speakout and see what was up with my account.

I called Speakout and it turns out that IMEI number they they had associated with my account was different than the IMEI number printed on my phone. I have no idea how this happened because I am using the same Nokia 1112 that I purchased from 7-11.

Anyway, I called Rogers back with the correct IMEI and 3 or 4 hours later, my number was successfully ported to my new Rogers phone.

One other thing to note is that your Speakout account number is the same as your Speakout phone number.

Hi,

I called SO customer service and they told me basically what one poster replied.

When you port the number out, you just provide Fido/Rogers/whoever the phone number you wanna port, the IMEI and the SO PIN.

After the number is ported your SO SIM is essentially garbage as it is unusable. You cannot port out your number and keep the SIM (assign it a new number). Also your SO account is terminated, so you lose any existing balance.

I'm trying to port my number right now from SO to Rogers and it's turning into a pain in the ass. I gave Rogers my number and they said it's a corporate account that's locked by Ztar and they can't do anything. I called SO and she was surprised, figured it might be because their services are mostly closed for the night??

Anyway, I'll call back tomorrow and hope for better results.

That sounds reasonable. But I would think there should be a way to keep your SIM active, maybe like port out the number but give the SIM a new number so you can continue using their service. This way they would still keep a customer. But what do I know?

I've never done but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. It should be no different from porting to SO from Rogers or Fido. Others have done that without any problems.

Note that you should use up your SO airtime first because (a) you'll lose it as soon as the port out completes and (b) your old SO SIM will then become inactive and useless (i.e. you won't be able to resell it.)
