My understanding is - if you place a call from your home area code location within the same area code, it is local call - if you place call from outside your home area code location to the current area code you are in or back to your home area code location, it will be long distance. When we tested this back several months ago, it cost .45 per min. 🙂 That's your report from Puerto Vallarta for today 😉

Now riddle me this - If I travel to Vancouver, what area code is now local? 604/778?. If I call back to the island is it long distance, or if I make a call to vancouver is that long distance?

Try it out for a very short call, and check your balance before and after.

That means most of SW Ontario is local, i.e. 416, 905 and 519 along with the new overlays are all local. So that explains why in the past I thought I was getting a "bonus" when calling from 519 to 905.

BTW what does "NPA" (upper left corner) stand for.

As general rule, calls within the same area code are local calls. This makes Speak Out unique where the same area code might be split across places that are traditionally "long distance" to each other.

Note that the file is current as of August 8, 2008, and that Speak Out might change those rules without informing us.
