Guys,
Thanks for all your input. I will just buy $100 to get a free 1600, after then put SIM to my own phone.

I will either leave 1600 at home or sell it over eBay.

Michael said:

Suppose I purchase another unlocked GSM phone, a Nokia 6061 phone as an example.

When I put the SIM card from the Nokia 1112 in to the new one, what will happen? Will the Nokia 6061 have my Speakout wireless number?

Yes, the 6061 will have your Speakout number. Just think of your phone number as residing on the SIM card.

Yes, you can install the SIM card into another GSM phone. I own a Samsung which has lived on the Rogers network for several years. I simply swapped in the Speak Out SIM and it connected to the network immediately.

This isn't necessarily true. If your phone was locked to another network, it might not accept another SIM card. Rogers phones, apparently, work fine with 7-11 SIM cards. But if you're buying your GSM phone from the States or something, I wouldn't say it's guaranteed.

I apologize in advance for this question in case it sounds stupid but I am a neophyte when it comes to these things.

I have a Speakout wireless account with a Nokia 1112 phone.

I'm not sure if I understand your logic. The Nokia 1600 is free, crappy phone or not. You can use it as a door stop if you wanted to. 🙂 Is it because you think it's wasteful to get a phone that you'll never use? You can always sell it.

Like you, I already had my own phone. As soon as I got the 1600, I took out the SIM and put it into my other phone. I'm keeping the 1600 as a backup phone in case my other phone goes on the blink.

I know that the 1600 is unlocked and I think most of their phones are, except for perhaps the Nokia 2610.

Yes, I know it is a solution. But these 2 phones are not so good.

I have a unlocked Motorola Razr V3 and unlocked Motorola W510. Both of them should be better than Nokia ones.

If I really have no choice, I probably will go for free phone option.

BTW, are Nokia ones unlocked?

You can't buy the SIM by itself, but you can get one for free. There's a promotion going on right now where if you buy a $100 topup voucher, you get the Nokia 1600 for free or $75 off any other phone.

I already have a unlocked and 4-banded cell phone with me. Is it possible I just buy a SIM card and transfer my current phone number (FIDO).

I really don't need to buy a new phone at all.

Anybody has such experience?
