I think he meant to ask if you have to have the referral code at the time of activation. That of course, isn't a strict requirement. That said, I'd call SO CS ASAP after activation, certainly within a week, just to avoid arguments.

Do I automatically get one of those promo codes so I can pass it on or do I have to ask for it?

An existing customer has to request the code and then give it to you.

So I need one of these things and like everything I want to know if I got it right.

So is my understanding please correct me if I'm wrong.

I buy a 100buck airtime thingy and can buy a phone 1/2 price. With that I get 20 minutes or so time that's included with the phone. As long as I don't activate the phone I can participate in the "Pay it Forward" promo by getting a code on the forum and must use it when I activate the phone (if not I'm outta luck).

When you activate the phone are you talking to a real person or a machine? I'm guessing it's a real person because of the promo. Do I automatically get one of those promo codes so I can pass it on or do I have to ask for it?

All the phones are GSM so as long as I have an unlocked GSM phone that supports all the bands it should work (by mmoving the sim card), except for possibly the message check feature (programming issue). The exception is that I could use a rogers phone (even if it is locked) because they share the network. There are other phones that could work but then I would have to determine if they are GSM and unlocked.

Even if the GSM phone from 7-11 is locked I can still place the sim card in another unlocked phone of the appropriate type and it will work. It's the phones that are locked and not the cards.

Well that's it. Great group, ton's of good info.
