My phone is with speakout7eleven and I use my tablet with any wifi I am near.

I have heard about tethering and was wondering if this tethering can happen between my phone and tablet?
I was considering getting a data plan for my phone and wondered if I could share it with my tablet?
Is it possible to get the data plan on a usb [internet key] to plug it in to the tablet only?
Is there a better way to do this?
I am very new to this all and, obviously, need help understanding the workings of this.
