Hey,

Anybody knows if I can call SO customer service and ask for a custom number. I want to have a number with similar last 4 digits as my home line. Anybody ever tried that?

Thanks!

Actually that's not quite true. I bought a SO phone today and the default number I have assigned to is some wierd area code 289 number. I called SO customer support and told the rep that the phone number is outside my normal calling area and want to change to another area code. She asked me to power off the phone number for 30 minutes and call back. The second time I called, another lady asked me the existing phone number, what area code I would like, and where I bought the phone. I was then assigned an area code 647 number.

I think if you want something like DIE-HARD as your phone number they probably won't let you, but they'll let you switch to another phone number with a different area code.

No, they can not do this. You have to take the number that's given to you, or port one of your own numbers.
