thanks

I already got freephoneline numbers and an adapter, I use it as landline and forward it to my SO phone.

the problem is, when I am out and use my cell to call, I have to use that bad number.

What's this freephoneline.ca? How does it works? I never heard about it before?

Timbit: With FIDO, I do not think you need to put in money for the 1st month. I did not anyway. I actually got a $25 bonus. But I think that had a lot to do with some promotion. I decided not to stick with FIDO because they were completely clueless. A lack of a $100 card with a 365 day expiry did not help either.

Sorted it out.

Called the customer service thru a landline, switched off the SO handset, and let him changed the number, and deducted the $10 fee from my balance.

switched the phone on ,and it is okay with the new number, the customer service password remain the same but the voicemail password needs to be changed and voicemail initializted.

pretty simple and not so many things on our end.

I would not recommend you get a another number from Speakout, because they cannot give you a choice of numbers, so the new number will likely be just as bad.

You can, however, port a number. For free.

FIDO and President's choice Mobile sell SIMs for $10 or less, with no activation fee. That is your cost. Both providers allow you to pick a number. When you get your number you can ask Speakout to port that number.

A cheaper method (free) would be to go to freephoneline.ca and get a free VOIP account there. You have a choice of numbers, and when you pick the one you like, you can forward that freephoneline number to your Speakout cell phone, or any phone in most cities in Canada, for free.

You can change the number, but you can't pick a specific number. The system will automatically pick another number for you. However, since you are keeping the same area code, there will be a charge involved.
