Every phones are different but are similar. Try this to change your internet settings on your phone if you have Nokia 5130:

-go settings
-go configuration
-go personal config setting
-add new *web, leave everything at default which is blank and save
-go back to configuration menu
-go default config setting
-change from ZTAR to personal setting
-go back to configuration menu
-go perferred access point
-change from ZTAR to internet

Now everytime you press hold-0 or by accident, you get invalid internet setting.

Confused after "*web".

The Speak Out people got back in touch with me and told me that I had been browsing using their network. Because my phone (Blackberry Curve) was not one of the phones they service, there is no guarantee that network browsing would be limited to the download site, so I would be charged at the same rate. She told me that she could not reverse the charges, though when I complained a bit more, she reversed the charge for my first use (which was $24). I still lost about $90 by browsing 🙁 She was also able to disable data service from my service, so I will no longer be able to browse through the network and avoid these charges.

So a warning to anyone putting a Speak Out SIM card into a phone with browsing capabilities: you will get charged if you browse using the network even though you are not supposed to be able to. Also, if you have a Wi-Fi capable phone, you should really, really, really be sure that you are using Wi-Fi and not the network.

Ouch! I hope SO is paying attention. The way they implemented data and the rates they charge are going to create a lot of unhappy customers.

I don`t have a BB but I suspect the easiest way to not get charged for data when surfing or e-mailing is to change the settings for those functions to something that`s clearly invalid and doesn`t point to ztar in any way.

I just found out today that I am having the same problem with my Blackberry Curve today when I checked my balance. I just got Speak Out 2 weeks ago with 140$ on it, and today the balance was 18$ (I only made about 30 mins worth of local calls max).

So for some reason, when I've been web browsing and emailing on the BB
and assumed I've been using Wi-Fi, I was actually somehow racking up
charges for downloads. I can only receive email and browse when I am in a Wi-Fi area, so I assumed that that was how I was getting the data, and for free.

I wonder if this is a Blackberry error, or a Speak Out error. I called Speak Out and they are getting the tech people to get in touch with me... I'll post an update later.

Anyone else with a Blackberry have this problem? Does anyone with a Blackberry use Wi-Fi successfully and not get charged?

Probably http://ztarmobile.clearmode.com/

I'd challenge SO to point you to the web page there or on the regular website that talks about a 5c/kB charge. If it's there, I can't find it.

So I recently got a Speak Out phone. Everything was fine. I decided to put my card into a blackberry pearl. I was surfing the net using wi-fi didnt get charge. I also have these apps that uses internet connection on my phone. Just recently I check my balance and it said I used $40 worth of minutes. So I called in customer service and ask them what going on? The service rep then told me that I was on their 7/11 website surfing the net looking at wallpapers,mp3 or game download and wasted $37 worth of minutes not downloading anything which I never did. I then ask them is their anyway he can reverse the charges. He told me no. Was it just the rep being arrogant, or was it me not knowing that they charge data if I use the internet (ex.gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc) on wi-fi? Or did the apps that are on my phone charge data to update? So I am here now to ask anybody if they can help with my situation. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.
