At the very least, do the exchange after your upgrade so you can sell your phone with a new battery.

Nokia advised going to local shop for exchange. Five shops in my area and nobody was interested. Carphone said I could by one. I reckon after three years I'm pretty safe and thinking of upgrading anyway.

Will this issue pertain to the newest 1600 phones, ie. if I buy one today?

Unlikely. I bought a couple of 1600s a year ago. Neither battery was affected by the recall. The recall is now several years old. I imagine they've fixed the problem at manufacturing by now 😉

Possible risk of overheating. Web site has full description of the batteries, numbers and photos. Worth checking especially if you have an older model 1600 or 2610.
