I wouldn't worry about it, it says it's long distance but you don't get charged long disance rates, SO has the best long distance areas going, you won't get charged for calls from 519 to 905 or 416

RonM said:

The message comes from the Rogers system which hosts Speakout. The Rogers system assumes the calls are going to be billed based on the old landline area code assignments. The Speakout system has entirely different determinations of what is and what isn't long distance and it bills accordingly.
I've tested it by spending a quarter to see if calls did get charged as long distance. Dial *777 before and after your test calls and check how much you were charged. That isn't a high tech solution -- it is crude but effective.
If you are calling outside your area code and/or the old landline number assignments a test call at 25 cents is better than having made a half hour call and worrying about what you got charged isn't it?

I'll ask my friend to call me and do what you suggested and see how SO charge...I can't test it myself since I don't have this message yet calling any local numbers.

Ok my new phone is 226 area code...London Ontario....my friend has speakout as well and has a 519, when he call me, there is a message saying something like "please wait while we connect you to this long distance number" and then connect....he tried his wife's SO phone which is also 226 area code...same thing. But when I call both of them no such message.

I called Customer support just now, and the gentlemen confirmed that my number is a London Ontario number but when I told him the above, he told me it only applies to landline or something like that...I don't understand what he meant but he said my friend will not be charge long distance.

Anyone has similiar problem and I wonder why the message in the 1st place?
