Correct. Nokia's low-end phones tend to come in two submodels, one for NA (850/1900) and the other (900/1800) for everywhere else. Their higher-end phones tend to be quadband.

RH258 is the version of the Nokia 2760 found in Europe, and RH 259 is the version found in North American.

SO doesn't have roaming arrangements in Europe (or even the US for that matter) so their SIMs don't register outside Canada. You'll need to get a local SIM or a so-called International SIM. For your options see http://www.prepaidgsm.net/ and also their forum.

As for phone, you need an unlocked GSM phone that works on the 900/1800 MHz GSM bands. AFAIK the 2760 doesn't support either band. So you'll need to either buy such a phone in Europe or buy an unlocked quadband phone in Canada. The advantage to the latter is that it will work both here and there (with the appropriate SIM.)

I know there's decent options, but maybe somebody else knows the specifics.

The other problem is that your 2760 won't work there as their gsm operates at a different frequency, so really, you'd need more than just the sim... phone as well. You would have needed what they call a tri or quad-band gsm phone for it to work there, which the speakout 2760 is not afaik.

If so, does anyone know what the cost of the text messages would be? I'd be using a 2760 phone.
