SO's Nokia 5200b tri-band phone will not work in Australia.
Next trip I'll take a quad band, or pick up a local unlocked Dick Smith's Electronics $59aud Nokia 1209 (similar to SO's Nokia 1208, but with compatible specs.). My SIM card will be a Virgin $10 "Beancounter".
If you travel with a friend check out Virgin's You & a Mate SIM...two sims for $2; V2V calls/texts free.
For calls back home, I found the "Genuine Aussie" phone card to be good value...
Hope this may help someone.
