My account ran out of money on July 11th (give or take a day) and I just bought a renewal card today. (I live over an hour from a 7-11). My balance was 0, where on expiry I still had money. But being it was less than 45 days I just applied the new card and I am now ready to go.

If your airtime has expired, you account will still remain available for 45 days. After that though, your account would be deactivated, and your number would get reassigned. This info is found in the FAQ on the official site.

It's been a source of debate in the past as to what the official Speak Out Wireless policy is, and how strictly the rule is enforced. It'd be good to hear what other people's experiences have been. Unfortunately it's not something that's easy to test

Last Friday I accidentally let my airtime expire, with a balance around $60. Although the front page here says that they cancel expired accounts quickly, I though I'd give it a try anyway before going to the trouble of getting a new one, and bought a $25 voucher today. Not only did it apply, but my 'expired' balance carried forward as well.
