I live in Ajax and can tell you that I receive 3G data there. I have no doubt that you will get 3G reception out your way as well. As for bridonca's comment that the SO network is slow, that may be due to his location (East coast I believe). I have SO on my iphone 3GS and the browsing speed is comparable to any of my friends that are on Rogers or Bell.

You are switching from one oddball phone to another, with totally non standard OS's, so I have no idea if your slowness was because of the OS on each phone, or the actual network itself. Speakout data is by no means fast, but I have never really had many complaints about it's speed. That could be because I am patient, or that I use Opera, a browser that uses less bandwidth.

If I were to guess, it probably would be faster, the question is, would it be fast enough for you?

Upgrading phones would certainly help. How much may depend on where you live. The phone you are using now is receiving GPRS data, the slowest. The new phone would at least receive 2G data (much faster) and if you are near a major city you would likely get 3G data (super fast). Not to mention that the new phone likely has a more powerful processor and would likely be able to render pages much more quickly. Do some research on the phone you want and find out if any other members are using it successfully, and let us know where you are from so members in your area can comment as to the quality of the data signal in your area.

So I currently have a Motorola a1200 with the following data spec's:

GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 – 48 kbps
EDGE No
3G No
WLAN No

And the browsing speed is just brutal. So will upgrading to a Sidekick lx 2009 show any marked improvement?

Sidekick lx 2009

GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 – 48 kbps
EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps
3G Yes, 384 kbps
WLAN No

Additionally, would going to a 3G phone be a waste? I've been reading mixed results from folks using a 3G device on the SO network.
