just make sure the firmware can be upgraded to 2.2 or 2.3. Older versions of Android have had issues with a proxy. I would argue it still does,. but at least there is a fix now.

i got the galaxy s 2 and just had it working on the SO plan and have data browsing up and running, and yes you need to root it for anything else, i will try those later tho

i would imagine that the older s would work just as well, as would most other GSM phones, i remember seeing a second hand htc hero on ebay for $100, old but i would think that if you just need email and web it would work splendid, maybe would need a new battery tho, but those are not that bad i think.

Yes, the browsing should work. To get most other Android applications working, you would need to root the phone and edit the IP tables.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question.

But I'm thinking of getting a new phone with the unlimited data plan. I've been eyeing the Samsung Gio, or the Galaxy. Will either of those work if I unlock them?
