I did on occasion put a call through Skype, though the results were dismal. The latency was was bad enough, but I did have passable audio on the downlink. The uplink was useless though. The only way you could get any VOIP would be though a specialized walkie talkie mode, that is able to go through all sorts of firewalls and hoops. I know of no software that exists though.

You just need to configure the SSL to port 80 instead of the usual port 443. Gmail does not seem to care unlike most apps that rely on SSL. It works with google maps also. Never tried it on other google stuff though.

As for SSH, you need a server configured to do SSH at port 80. Rogers does something nasty with encrypted traffic though, slows it down to like 2k a sec. It is a shame they cannot be doing something more useful, instead screwing around with web traffic. If you want something done half assed, Rogers is there for you.
