OfflineYou need to unlock the phone first. Get on wifi and navigate to jailbreakme.com on Safari. Once jailbroken, launch the app called "Cydia" that you will find on your springboard. It will require you do some updates, do them all, the relaunch Cydia. Search for "bootnueter" and install. Launch bootnueter from your springboard and enter the settings below...

OfflineUnfortunately did not work, this is the error code:
NFO: Now listening for devices...
INFO: read igor/map.plist
INFO: Connected to the AppleMobileDevice.
INFO: Version iPhone1,1_3.1.3
INFO: Connecting to mobilebackup...
INFO: Sending files via AFC.
FATAL(__LINE__): Assertion failed (dl.c:198): 0 == (AMDeviceStartService(dev, service, &it, NULL)) (but it was -402653091)

Any suggestions? Thank you.

OfflineOkay, I was afraid of that. I had problems when trying to JB 3.1.3 as well. The process is a lot easier starting at 3.1.2 and using blackra1n to jailbreak and bootneuter to unlock.
First thing you are going to do is download 3.1.2 firmware here...
http://appldnld.apple.com.edge.....store.ipsw
Next you are going to follow the instructions on this page to jailbreak with Blackra1n and unlock with bootneuter.

I've followed this guides several times without fail on my 2G, so you shouldn't have any problems.
