Is the SIM card for your new provider a home cut down version? If so any slight damaget to the chip will cause problems.

Only advice I have is for you to jiggle the SIM around in the iphone until there is a proper contact. You have to power down the phone ever time you do this though.

I have been using speak out with my iPhone 4 locked to rogers for 2 years now with no real problems. I have been using a cut down sim card. I recently moved to a new area in Canada for a few months and wanted to get a new phone number for the local area to avoid long distance charges (and keep my old phone number as well). I have activated my new micro sim and it displays either "no sim" or "invalid sim" but when I put it in my old nokia phone it work fine. Any suggestions?
