Well, Thanks DavidA for very details info, I would try to avoid those phones you mentioned. This is definitely very helpful.

But my situation seems a little bit different from yours. I bought a iphone 4 last month. I checked with others to make sure SO sim is ok for iphone. Then I decided to port over no. to SO.

For just experiment purpose, you know, iphone 4's sim needs to be cut to fit, I try to cut both my FIDO and ROGERS sim to check if they are accepted or not. I clearly remembered that the signal bar were absolutely the same with my old phones. I even hold it outside the window to see if there is any change with this so-call " capable of doing anything" phone.

So, I am still very confusing.............

Cheer to all, you guys are really helping! Have a very great weekend! And the coming weekdays too. 😉

I have lived in a weak signal areas for years and the reason (for sure) for varying reception (on the same network) - regardless if you are on Rogers/Fido or Speakout, is most certainly the phone. The truth is that some phones perform much better than others. Some phones will work when others will not work at all.... Nokia 1661 is a strong phone that works well in weak signal areas. Blackberry and Motorola phones are also very strong... Palm smartphones devices are worthless (and usually will not work at all) in weak signal areas. LG phones are weak as well, although some models seem to perform better than others.

Cheers
David

No, I just use my own phones, none of 7/11's.

But my first Fido phone is Nokia, which I thrown away soon, then Rogers, they just always stuck for very important conversations. Then I asked others if they have same experiences. There comes all the jokes.

We keep changing carriers just for trying to survive.............

Maybe Canada is a "developed" country, all infrastructures were built in early days. You know, as for telecom, the later the better and cheaper.

I do not work in this area, (I mean telecom), but would like to find out the reason for why 7/11 is getting so "strong" under big guy's lousy own performance.

So how is it that SpeakOut can be so much better using the same network? Are you using one of 7-11's Nokia phones with SO? Is it just that Nokia is that much better?

😆 Yeah, I've got tons of stories of myself and my friends like this kind. Sometimes we would go extreme for just trying to get signals, acting like comedian Mr. Beans

I've noticed the same thing! I had a Fido plan before switching to SO, and I figured since they both use Rogers' network, I'd get about the same reception. But SO's reception is MUCH better. With Fido, I had to practically lean out my bedroom window to make a call. With SO, I get 3, sometimes 4 bars in the innermost rooms in my basement, with no windows at all. Maybe it's the phone, but I thought my Fido phone was the top of the line when I got it, so I really don't know what the difference is.

I've been sending and receiving texts on the 25th, 26th and 27th with no problems at all, as far as I can tell. I'm in Vancouver... I wonder if that makes a difference. We all know what Torontonians really mean when they say "across Canada"! 😉

Maybe the population in GTA is much more than metro Vancouver.

Also, I had two calls go directly to voicemail without my phone ringing. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing because up until now my service has been flawless.
