Someone else will have to answer that question. I have only made one or two very short calls in the past month, not enough to form any sort of opinion other than "I could hear them, they could hear me".

>>>>> Does anyone know how to get the Wifi to work with this phone? I have searched for available WLAN's and connected to my own home internet, but I can't browse the internet using Operamini or the Nokia browser. <<<<

I've had success using both browsers, as well as the Nokia e-mail program. I've done this on my own home network, as well as various free public wi-fi locations. I have had some difficulties getting through some login pages --- for example, at Safeway --- but most work just fine. I was also able to listen to some streamed audio, and also downloaded a small MP3 music file that I can play with the media player.

I also installed Google Maps. The C3 doesn't have GPS, but you can still browse maps (and use StreetView) just like you can with a desktop PC. Google Maps will use the Internet connection you select ("Search WLAN" or "G Internet").

I don't know if I did anything special to use these apps. The browser or mail program will ask you which connection you want to use (wi-fi or phone data). Since I am not on the data plan, I just selected the wi-fi option and connected to the available unsecured access point.

Can you explain what you have tried, or what kind of error messages you are getting?

Well, it was giving me the message "service not available". I did manage to connect once but I had to do some fiddling around in configuration settings. In the end, I decided to do a software update, which was needed, using the Ovi Suite. Now everything is working really well with the Wifi connections. I guess it just needed the update.

My phone arrived today and I am pleased to report that my Speakout SIM works in the Nokia C3.

Not surprisingly, it was not happy with a T-Mobile SIM. I will have to unlock the phone for that.

This looks and feels like a good phone for my purposes. I'll have to check out all the bells and whistles, but as long as the call quality and Bluetooth is decent and reliable, I'll be happy. The other stuff is just a bonus.

Thanks again!

It was a little disturbing to read the other threads and find out that my great idea to buy the C3 would turn out to be not such a great idea.

I'm likely going to unlock it anyway so I can use my T-Mobile SIM too, but first things first.

I'll report back after I get the phone so that other people can benefit from the information.

My C3 worked with my SO SIM right out of the box. I was also able to unlock it and use my T-Mobile SIM in this phone. It does connect well to WIFI and gets you on Facebook if you want to work with a very limited browser. I am not going to bother - it is just too painful.

I re-read that other thread about the Nokia C3, and there were two users who reported what appeared to be SIM card problems, but I believe that they are in the minority, and that most users have had no problems using their SpeakOut SIM in the C3. I'm one of those users who had no problems, and hopefully, when your phone arrives in a day or two, you'll join the same club.

Yes, it's just a matter of installing the SO SIM and turning it on. If your SIM doesn't work, you could call SO and request a replacement, but they'll charge you for it.

And I'm jealous that you grabbed a C3 at $59 -- by the time I got to the computer, they were sold out.

I purchased a Rogers Nokia C3 online from Best Buy's Boxing Day sale last night and was reading on this site about the problems with using a SO SIM.

It seems like it's hit-or-miss: you insert the SO SIM into the C3 and it either works without any trouble or your screen flashes and goes black.

I've had my SO SIM since 2007.

When I receive my C3, I am not going to activate the Rogers SIM. I am simply going to insert the SO SIM and hope for the best. Is this the correct procedure?

If it does NOT work, what can be done? Did any of you who had this problem find a solution? Would unlocking the C3 fix it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.
