Thanks iamdrumming.

To be on the safe side, I've opted for a $20 Motorola L7 (850/900/1800/1900) which I know will work in my area. The hubby doesn't like the Blackberry Bold 9000 I recently purchased and as he only needs a simple phone - with number buttons he can see - to keep into the glove box for emergency purposes the Moto L7 seems to fit the bill. I am only planning on purchasing a $25 prepaid as I figure the 911 monthly charges will use up more $$ than any talk minutes he will use in the next 12 months.

But, now I have another question if anyone can help me with.....

What size SIM do I need for the Motorola? I have searched the internet and can find lots of information on how to insert the card; but, not the size.

Many thanks for any assistance.

Wow, a blast from the past. I had the Nokia 6610i cousin, the Nokia 6585. Nice phone, awesome battery life.

The Nokia 6610i will work with only the 1900 mhz band functional on Speakout, but I have reservations on whether it will work in your area of rural Ontario. Depending on the population density, Rogers might have decided on putting in a tower with only one band. I would say the chances are good that band is the 1900 mhz band, because when Fido was an independent entity, that was the only band it had.

My guess is it will work no problem. But I have been wrong before.

Hello to all,

I recently picked up a really nice Blackberry Bold 9000 for an amazing $30. It is my first cellphone and I am thrilled with it but the hubby needs something simpler.

I have been checking around and I am drawn to a Nokia 6610i that I can pick up for $20. The seller states that the phone will work with any GSM SIM card that supports 900/1800/1900. I note from the 7-Eleven site that the SO SIM cards support GSM 850/1900 MHz. Will a Nokia 6610i work with SpeakOut? We live in a rural area (1 hr NE of Peterborough, Ontario).

Many thanks for any assistance.

BTW, for what it matters....we only need the prepaid phone service. We do not need a data plan.
