It seems to work with some expired SIMs I tried iit on however the software is so flakey that I haven't had the courage to use it on a SO SIM, even just to read stuff off it. For me it's not worth the gamble that I might damage the SIM. YMMV.

As for synching phone books on a 1600 by cable, when I looked into that a few months ago I couldn't find either a cable or software that was explicitly designed for the 1600. It wasn't a big deal for me so I didn't spend muvh time on it.

I was thinking of buying one of these readers as they are not that expensive anyway.

Maybe if it works, I can sell my service in porting contact names for GSM phones. 😉

Heard that these readers all work well with the older Sim V1 but can have problems with V2 and V3 of the Sim. Does anyone have any experience with the 7-11 Sim.

In the future, if you change to another GSM provider with a different SIM card and change your phone, you don't have to buy another cable for the new phone.

However, it does not work if you are going to use phones that do not use a SIM card (such as CDMA phones).
