The email about how "Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month" is a very old hoax. it has been circulating on the Internet for ages. The links below are from the US -- but the information is the same for Canada.

http://www.snopes.com/politics.....ell411.asp

http://www.bbb.org/us/article/.....blic-21014

Listing your Cell Phone on the national "Do Not Call" list may have some benefits. There have recently been a couple of huge fines levied against companies and call centers who did not adhere to the rules. That may discourage others from abuse.

However folks who hide their caller ID with spoofed numbers like "+10000000000" don't care about rules or laws.

Your SO phone is completely anonymous. there is nowhere that the number is associated with your name unless you ported a number from somewhere else. Nuisance calls to your phone are completely random.

I just received the following email message. Thought it might be of interest to Speak Out members

"Subject: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month
Thought this was good info from the Gov't of Canada...if you have a cell phone.
REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.
REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS!!

To prevent this, go to the following web-site for Canadian Telephone Numbers:

                                                     http://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca

It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years."

When you add a number to the Call Screen feature (No. Screening), and that particular number calls, the display will come on alerting you to the incoming call, but the phone will not ring.

You must enter the full number for it to work. For instance, if the number you want to screen is:

289-123-4567

you have to enter it as:

+12891234567

As for outright blocking a number, I'm not sure. I would call customer service and ask.

Despite registering my number on the "National Do Not Call list", I still got some calls from telemarketer. However, it is a recording message and the caller ID is showing as +10000000000. Some other time, I got a call from what looks like a legit number but when I check the country code on the internet, it's not even used (I forgot what country code it was).

Anyway, now I want to block this number on my Nokia 1208. Anyone know how to do it? All I can come up is the "No. Screening". What is this anyway? Can I use it to block the call?

Thanks,
