Many thanks to all those whose helpful suggestions got Speakout's data plan working in my LG phone back in November. Sadly, that phone was stolen and has been replaced by a Samsung Galaxy Discover SGH-S730M running Android 4.0.1. Just as sadly, I'm having the same problems with the data plan and cannot find a solution.

I'm not a techie type and don't wish to get too deeply into the works, but if any Samsung (or other) user has suggestions - please tell me! It could be that earlier APN settings are obsolete and have now been replaced. I'd be happy to try proxy solutions, bur don't want to get into rooting.

Thanks, everyone!

Hi. I just converted from UBM (which always worked) to the new and crappy data plan. Nothing seems to work though. Even after setting the correct APN settings, nothing happens. I think even before setting up anything for UBM, I had the little "e" near the signal bars indicating that it knew I'm supposed to get data. Nothing this time though, even after restarting several times.

I got the confirmation text within minutes of activation and the webside acknowledges that I indeed activated it. Is there something I'm missing or should I call support?

Thanks!

(ps. I'm on android)

But there another problem, once I get home with my WiFi, both don't work. I have to turn off either WIFI or the Auto Proxy. Otherwise, I cannot browse anything.
It is interesting, maybe because my house is starco finished with the steel net. My phone has no signal, in basement, it has no signal at all. So I can only use WIFI. I have to switch them all the time.
I am wondering if I update the Auto Proxy to full (I am reluctant to give out my credit card #, they don't have a paypal option.) does it swith automaticly?

I used to use the full version of AutoProxy and I believe there is indeed a setting that makes it so it only activates if 3G is present, or if WiFi is present. At least, that's how it worked for me, and i'm pretty sure I set it like that, lol.

As long as your phone is unlocked, it has a SIM slot, and your phone's radio supports the right frequencies (that Rogers Wireless uses), then you'll be fine and shouldn't have any problems. Once you buy the SIM card at 7-11, stick it in, enter in the APN data.. root your phone (or don't, if you are using ICS) and then install DroidVPN.

Did you try using a Proxy App as described in detail several pages back? Unless you are on Jellybean, none of the apps other than the Browser will work without a Proxy. Even with Jellybean only about 60% of the apps will work without a Proxy. With a Proxy about 80% of the apps will work.

Well, he can root his phone and use DroidVPN, that way he'll get 99% app functionality.

The Optimus Net is not a great phone for speakout UMB. You are pretty much stuck with Android 2.3.3, because there is no support for anything higher. Android 4+ deals with proxies well. Unless you root the phone, and install a program like proxydroid, I think the best you can expect is just browsing.

Actually that's not quite true. His phone can be upgraded to ICS (and even JB if he wants to go without a camera) but he'll have to root and then flash the ROM himself. At this point that's probably more hassle than it's worth, unless he knows how to do it.
