Have you swap the SIM and try ?

Not familiar with your phone but if I use a Galaxy Ace bought in Europe/Asia, I would only get EDGE(and vice versa if i use my Ace in Asia/Europe) as some low price android are only dual band 3G.

Another possiblity is of course the 3G is disabled on the phone.
