Solved!

I took the SIM, battery and SD card out and then reassembled it and everything fired up again. Have no idea if taking out the SD card did it or if that was coincidence, but everything's working!

I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Gio that's been working great for years but suddenly the phone can't make or receive calls, it doesn't see the SIM, and mobile data is grayed out, so I can't check the APN settings.

Maybe time to get a new phone but up until a few days ago this one actually did everything I need, so I'd be happy to get it working again.

I've tried the low-tech power-down-battery-out routine with no joy, and it's definitely not in airplane mode.

Has anyone run into this?
