Yeah, the whole point is that it's a spare phone that I figured he could use. I'll try switching it back to a stock Android first. Like you said: I loved Cyanogenmod, but it really didn't age well and was quite barebones.

If the rom flash doesn't work, I'll probably look into the baseband.

Thanks for the reply.

I have mucked around with this stuff, and it is hard to troubleshoot where your point of failure is. Here are the variables that I can think of.

The baseband is incompatible. You might need to add another baseband. Not something I recommend, unless you know what you are doing.

SIM card does not have a good contact. Always possible.

Something is still locked. Not likely, but who knows.

Cyanogenmod: I love it, I really do, but these roms are bare bones, and potentially unstable when it comes to the weird stuff, so there a good chance something you now need is missing. I have learned the hard way you need to unlock the device first before you install Cyanogenmod, because the rom does not deal with that.

It is hard to recommend any of this, because frankly, it is not a good phone to begin with. You can get a Huawei Ascend Y300 for $58 at Walmart, and unlock it for $5. You get a much nicer phone to boot.

Hey guys,

I'm not personally on Speakout, but I'm planning on giving my LG G2X (it's called the optimus here in Canada, just to be confusing) to my dad as a hand-me-down. The phone is already rooted and I was running a cyanogenmod rom on it, but I plan on reverting it back to a stock distro for him. It was originally on Wind mobile, and I know they use a certain band outside of the big three.

Now the problem I had is that I already tried throwing his SIM card in just for fun, and the phone gave me a SIM card error. I'm thinking that it was just because I had it set to a certain band, but I didn't really have much time to look into it.

So basically, my question is such: while I'm flashing the rom back to a stock android, what other steps should I take to make sure it's prepared? My dad isn't completely hopeless, but mucking with the phone would be beyond him. I just want to make sure it's plug and play for him when he gets it.
