I don't Skype, but I have the app loaded on both iPhone 4S and iPad 2 using SO. I'm able to complete the test call without any problem, which according to Skype means my setup would work. Are we absolutely positive Skype does not work with Speakout's data plan?

Even your revised one is still confusing. My advice is just make it simpler but that is up to you. As it no longer affect me now that you tell me what is really in your mind(not what your rule is communicating though, it is still implicating something but better than the above).

I have no issue with your rationale nor the don't hijack so you can stand by that. But do read your rule 2 or you can change it to say 'moderator doesn't need this rule' if by stand by you also mean the shout.

BTW, watch out about the term 'law' as only parliament/province legislature/city council can make up 'laws' in this country. Speakout's are terms of use(or contract terms which is governed by contract law), not law.

As for my other post, I stand by what I said. Too many people have come to this site who post away, and have never read the rules here, or the rules on the official site. If you are a customer of SpeakOut, you should make yourself very familiar with their 'Terms' page on the official site, as it is the law when accessing their service. Every forum based site has rules, including this one.

As I have repeated, it is ok to say 'don't hijack' which is also your rule and I am perfectly fine. But calling in the wrong rule and shout(which IMO actually against your other rule of give people the benefit of doubt, rule 2) is plain wrong and very rude.

in fact the wording there is communicating 'don't discuss how to circumvent and discuss on how to use SO UMB for tethering'. So remove all those explanation and just make it simple 'the word tethering is forbidden in this forum, regardless of context' which is what you want to say.

If you would like to discuss tethering with Bell, and all things related to Bell, there are plenty of sites dedicated to that provider. Sign up on one of those sites. This is a site dedicated to SpeakOut. I'm not saying Bell is off topic totally on this site, but don't hijack a thread that was started to discuss using an iPhone 4S with SpeakOut. Start your own thread in the "Other Carriers" forum if you would like to discuss Bell.

As I said in your PM, this is a SpeakOut site, and this thread was originally started to discuss if you can use an iPhone 4S with SpeakOut, then it was hijacked by a few people into discussion about Bell. If you want to discuss Bell, and tethering with Bell, choose a site dedicated to that provider.

You may say it is OT as it is not about Speakout, but get that fact straight first !

My reading is 'don't talk about tethering about Speakout', unless you only want to focus on the shout. In that case, just keep the shoutout part and remove the rest.

PEOPLE NEED TO READ THE RULES OF THIS SITE, AND ESPECIALLY THE OFFICIAL SITE, UNDERSTAND THEM, AND OBEY THEM.

It is YOUR responsibility to comply with the rules against tethering given to us by SpeakOut.

I'm tired of people coming onto the forum, posting whatever they want with a blatant disregard of the rules. Read the rules BEFORE posting. Ignorance is no excuse.

the only catch is how to activate that. you need to have an iPad in order to activate the SIM.

either ask around for a friend who has one or may be again trick the apple store boy/girl to help you activate it in store.

once it is activated, it is full data only(no restriction) plan but no tethering. I believe it is possible to make it tether using say android(don't have an adaptor for it so didn't try) but iPhone is very cozy with bell and just show 'call bell' when I want to enable wifi hotspot.

sounds like you are in a similar situation as me. I am using iPhone4 on bell using their iPad plan.

Just go into the apple store and trick them give you the micro sim for iPad free. activate the sim. I am using the 250MB @ 15/30 days. it is data only but I don't talk or text(well I do talk and text but use google voice).

It is slightly more expensive than SO + UMB but it is a full data plan(can do everything). One scale up is 500MB@20.

I do have a 2630 with SO as emergency phone.

Thanks for your useful posts. Bell now of course carries a micro-sim specific to iphone 4s, and a data only rate plan (costs more than the ipad data plan = $30 I think). I'm wondering whether this would work just as well for VOIP and skype calls, or do you foresee any issues? Maybe the iphone 4s micro-sim limits app use to restrict VOIP and skype? Any advice would be welcome.

If you want data on your iPhone on Speakout you'll need to go to this website to change the APN info in your iphone. It's super easy tho so don't worry. You just go to the site http://www.unlockit.co.nz/unlockit/ , choose your privider and click install and it'll work.
