This seems impossible given how facetime activates (and imessage for that matter). Can you provide more details on how you got this working? The information in this thread is in conflict with other posts on the same topic.

I don't care about data, I just want to use facetime / imessage on WiFi which seems not possible but pmarcovi above says he has the button, I would love to know how.

It somehow activated a long time ago. This is no longer the case. Speakout does not support (disabled by Rogers) the SMS mechanism used by FaceTime and more recently by iMessage to activate (to allow the use of your phone number for FaceTime and iMessage purposes). With IOS 5, you can also use your email address for both these applications though (check in the iPhone's settings). You just have to tell your friends to select your email instead of your phone number when they want to FaceTime or iMessage you ...

It's actually kinda confusing when it says "waiting for activation" cuz on iphone 4 it doesn't have the FaceTime icon like it does on itouch4. so. I don't know bout you guys but for me, if I have wifi on, just choose any of your contacts and it will say facetime underneath their info and click that, then if they are on wifi too, they can receive the call.
isn't it?

FaceTime only works on wifi. It does not need the wireless data. The only thing that is needed is to be able to activate it. To activate it, behind the scenes, the iphone is sending some text message to one of their servers. Right now, it works for me. It took a while to activate it. Be patient and from time to time reboot the iPhone; shut it down completely and restart it.

incorrect. There is a cydia hack that will allow facetime to work over the 3G network.

You're referring to the 3G Unrestrictor app available over Cydia, correct?

Thx for the info, pmarcovi. So there's hope that it will activate... I'll try rebooting as I almost never do (and being patient...)...not sure if it matters for getting it activated, if 3G is turned on...I have it turned on...

It's certainly not clear on how Facetime works/gets activated by reading posts on the web...
