I have always assumed Rogers uses a priority system on it's network. If their cell site is not congested, you can have Youtube, 3G, the works on Speakout and the like. As soon as the tower gets busy, the frills go out the window, and you get what you paid for.

There's something odd that I've discovered during my commute to work every day. In the morning, during my half hour train ride, I have 3G service for more than half the trip. But, on the same train in the evening I only get a couple of minutes 3G coverage. So why the big difference? The big difference is in the area between Guildwood station and Pickering station. Solid coverage in the morning, nothing in the evening.

How do you know what Rogers wants? Do you work for them? Did you call them? We don't pay $10 and have all the benefits as Rogers "users". Rogers users are not behind a proxy that cripples more of the bandwidth demanding programs.

With that being said,
I am always on 3G network in Kawartha Lakes, ON.

3G on the Speakout in urban area is history. Rogers doesn't want us to pay $10 and have all benefits as Rogers users so I'm positive it's not coming back to SO. I'm downtown and I lost 3G two weeks ago.

I disagree. In fact since November 2 I have seen an increase in 3G service as opposed to any further decrease. In fact, after the initial cut, in the only area where I was not getting 3G access, I was not getting 2G access either. After a call to Speakout CS, 2G was quickly restored, but it just goes to show that the person that did whatever update that was required, never did it properly. I think the loss of 3G is more an error on the part of whoever applied the update.

However, who knows why 3G was ever activated in the first place?

what would be the explanation that my roaming SIM(or rogers SIM) has no problem at the exact same location to access UMTS network ?

It looks to me like it could be related to the upgrade but during the process, they re-examine the 'whitelist' and only bring those 'paid' one over and clean up accidentally happened one like SO.

So I still think we are going to see less and less UMTS access for SO and eventually none.

I agree that it's likely got something to do with some kind of system update, and the settings just weren't restored correctly. I am still getting strong 3G signal in most areas, but not in an entire section between where I live and where I work. If Rogers was deliberately trying to cut off 3G, surely they would have done it across the board. Unfortunatly, as we are not really entitled to 3G, there is no way to ask them to restore it.

Could it be that this is just Rogers going through growing pains installing the new LTE gear, And these tweaks are unintentionally messing up Speakout's traffic? I ask this, because it seem to affect high population areas, and Saskatchewan is in need of a major tweak already. I have had no issue here in Halifax, for example ( I could see no point of LTE here in this market, so no rush to install LTE here)
