I'll have to search the forums on how to cut my existing SpeakOut SIM!

Thanks again!

The iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S uses a micro Sim card. You might be better off to buy a cutter for about $ 10.00 rather than screwing up the SIM card with a pair of scissors.

Also it needs to be sanded down on the opposite flat side of the chip. It needs to fit into a tray and then in a tight slot.

S.O sells a Micro Sim card for $ 10.00, you might be better of buying one and transfer your existing number to it.

Great info, everyone! I spoke with Telus and they confirm it will cost $35 to unlock the phone, so not too bad.

The phone has been using the Telus 3G network so I hope that means it will allow it to work with Speakout.

Based on all the comments so far, it sounds like I can get the phone to work with Speakout.

I'll have to search the forums on how to cut my existing SpeakOut SIM!

Thanks again!

All Bell/Telus iPhones use 3G, not CDMA. Bell/Telus also supports an older CDMA phone system, but they no longer sell phones that use it. Bell/Telus does not support 2G GSM, only 3G at frequencies of 850 mhz and 1900 mhz. Bell/Telus also support LTE band 4 in most metropolitan areas.

I may be wrong, but since Telus is using CDMA as is Bell and there are iPhones made for CDMA it may not work on Speakout. Years ago I had a Motorola Telus phone with a SIM card in it, but all it was for was to be able to access expensive roaming in other countries. That may be different now.
If it does use the normal GSM then search this forum. I had made a posting about setting up my iPhone 4S on Speakout. You get into a website and it is all done for you automatically as you enter some information.
There is no need to monkey with any settings yourself using that website.

You are correct in what you need to get a Telus iPhone working on Speakout. You need to buy a Speakout micro SIM or cut down a standard SIM to fit.

It is expensive to unlock a Telus iPhone, because you need to deal directly with Apple and Telus. It costs about $80 to unlock a Telus iPhone. There are other methods to unlock the iPhone that require jailbreak and other gimmicks, but they do not work reliably.

If you are going to use Speakout data, you will also have to add the Speakout APN settings. Not a big deal, but you just have to do it.

Hello! I've searched these forums and googled for information but I couldn't find information to help me understand how I take my Telus iPhone 4 and use it with SpeakOut.

Here's what I know and have learned. Please help me understand if I'm missing any important information or step.

1. I need to unlock my iPhone. I know I can all Telus and pay them to unlock my phone. Is that all I need to do to prepare my iPhone for Speakout? BTW: By "unlock" I don't mean "jail break". I assume "jail break" is not required.

2. I currently have a SpeakOut phone/plan. I can either cut the existing SIM to fit the iPhone, or I can buy a micro-SIM. Is that correct?

3. Install the cut/micro-SIM card into my unlocked iPhone 4, and now I can use my iPhone with SpeakOut.

Are the above all the steps everything I need to do to get my iPhone working with SpeakOut? Did I miss anything?

Very much appreciated!
