3G is more bandwidth efficient than GSM, so most carriers prefer subscribers use 3G instead of GSM. That goes with voice or data.

As for battery life, for the most part, 3G is not that hard on the battery. Of course, one tends to use 3G more, because it is faster.

iamdrumming, I'll turn off my GPS too. I see you're in The Falls, so if I'm lost, I'll yell...you'll hear me

Thanks for the info. How about the "Use 2G only" part? Is that a good idea to save battery life?

Using 2G only is a good way of conserving your battery. Also try turning off any location finding apps/GPS.

GSM only appears to be the only option you can use on that phone with Speakout. WCDMA on that phone, uses frequencies not supported by any North American carrier. WCDMA is just 3G GSM, but the WCDMA frequencies offered by that phone make it incompatible for use here. WCDMA is not the same as CDMA, of which Verizon, Sprint, and the Bell/Telus legacy network uses.

I recently picked up an HTC Droid Incredible 2. It's a Verizon branded phone, but unlocked. It supports CDMA 800 / 1900
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO
HSDPA 900 / 2100

I know that the CDMA stuff won't do me any good, but it's working fine on SpeakOut.

I just installed CM7. I have some options that I'm not sure how to set. I'd of course like maximum cell signal, but I'd like to maximize battery life too. Here are my choices:

1. Global(???)
2. EvDo only
3. CDMA w/o EvDo
4. CDMA w EvDo auto
5. GSM / WCDMA autu
6. WCDMA only
7. GSM only
8. GSM / WCDMA preffered

I'm currently set to #7. Am I correct?

I also have the following enabled:
Use only 2G networks (Saves battery)

I use voice only, no data (other than wifi).

Do my choices look correct?
