With the feedback here I figured it was simply not reading the SIM. I had previously cut it down on three sides per the info I had; it seems it needs to be cut down on all four sides, though only slightly on the one side where the gold plating is nearest the edge...I actually had to cut off a bit of the gold plating. Seems to work now. Thanks all.

Thanks for the responses. Pathfinder I did retry the cut down SIM in the old Nokia and it does still work. Still get 'No SIM' message so I guess it must be a cutting-down error (if not an issue with the locked phone). I got a second SIM from 7-11 so I can try cutting that down too if nobody has any other ideas. Is there a photo posted anywhere of a correctly cut-down SIM?

Speakout sim should work in a Rogers locked phone. So to confirm that your cut SIM is the problem, get a friend/coworker to try it in their unlocked phone. Or go to a Rogers phone booth in the mall and ask them to try it out in a iphone. You can also re-install it in your Nokia (with the cutoff piece or a microsim adapter) to see if it still works...

Hi, My wife has been using Speakout on an old Nokia for years. I bought her a new iphone 4s locked to Rogers, but without a SIM, and hope to get it working on her present SO number, etc. I cut the SIM card down as described elsewhere pretty carefully -- and it still works if placed back in the Nokia surrounded by the part of the original SIM removed -- but boots up to say "No SIM" though I know it is there. Does this mean my cut-down isn't accurate enough? Does it need to be jailbroke, or unlocked, or both? I did the setup steps described on here with it tethered to her macbook -- though I don't have that here right now.

I cannot even seem to get to the 'Settings' screen to find out what firmware version I have without a SIM.

Any and all advice appreciated.
