Is your phone rooted? If you're willing to do that, then you can install apps like Juice Defender or Battery Saver which should help your battery last longer. I'm using a Motorola Milestone which was running 2.2 and with data and connecting to the wifi at work off and on all day, I would get a day to a day and a half out of the battery. But I rooted the phone and switched to Cyanogenmod 7 at the same time plus installed Juice Defender; now I can get up to 2 days out of the phone now. I can't say whether it's the OS change or the Juice Defender app or both that made the difference though.

Good luck!

whether it is proxy or vpn, you are forcing the phone to constantly ping the tower. This would eat your battery very quickly.

if you want to last a normal day, i would advice to switch to EDGE only and enable 3G when needed. It is a waste of energy if all you want is just IM/email notification, EDGE speed is more than enough for that.

That is how I make my gio to last a day(i.e. morning to night before i can be back for recharge).

10 dollars UMB is different from real data in these minor details.

I don't have an Android, but I know Google Services is probably your worst battery drain in that list. Anything to do with location services/GPS will kill a battery. It is data intensive.

Hi,
I like to hear everyone's experiences with using Android smartphone and Speakout ULB plan. How is the battery life? I find enabling data all the time with a proxy app really drains the battery. I wonder if it is just my phone and its battery or if it is just how android utilizing the ULB and all its apps. I am sure others will be interested as well.

Samsung Captivate i897
ICSSGS 4.2
Running apps:
Proxydroid
WhatsApp
Load Monitor
CPU Tuner
Beautiful Widget
Google Services (email and location)
Swype

My Usage pattern is minimal. A couple of calls and refreshing the weather and email every 30 minutes.

Unplug from charger (100%) 7:00AM
Dead by 4:00PM

Approximately 10% drain each hour. I think it is a bit excessive seeing my usage pattern. Could it be that my battery is toast?
