As others I had problems creating/saving an APN on my ASUS android phone. Could enter the data but it would not save.

After a few tries discovered that the problem was with the MVNO type: field. Speakout specifies "None" for this field. If you set it to NONE your APN will not save.

If you leave it at it's default setting(mine was GID FF) you can save.

Try the ZTAR APN, it should work. Then look at the settings for MVNO type:

I sure wish I could get it to work. I am sure I did the same. I got the Roam Mobile SIM, removed the Speakout Sim and added Roam Mobile sim, and created a Speakout 7-Eleven APN. Added the Speakout Sim, changed over so the Speakout was the default Sim and the Roam Data did not work. Tried to change the APN and when I went to save, I got a message about it could not do it because of a *.

Sometimes when I have been trying, I get the Speakout all Grey, other times I add the Speakout APN, make a change, do a Save and the Speakout APN is deleted!

Where is the APN stored? I get two different APN lists depending on the SIM card I make dominate, so how do I get Speakout to use the Mobile APN?

Thanks for the tip, I read that roam mobility is a sim that allows to edit APN. So I bought a Roam Mobility Travel Sim from Petro Canada $11.25 I think with tax.

Took out both speakout sims i was using. Put in the roam mobility sim and could create and add a new apn with the setttings!!
I put one speakout sim back into the 1 slot the roam sim was in the number 2 slot, selected the created apn and data is now working!
Took out the roam sim and have the original two speakout sims, can finally use data.

I didn't activate the Roam Sim just bought and used.

So speakout is not allowing the apn to be editable i guess with android 8.1 phones

Hope this helps!

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

I'm having a similar issue. I have a fairly new sim card and when I put it in a BLU phone from Speakout the APN settings seem to input fine as rogers-core-appl1.apn. When I put them in the new UMIDIGI phone with 8.1 it says ltemobile.apn and I am unable to edit it or create a new APN. Everything is greyed out and I can't get data working.

I reached out to UMIDIGI and this is what they said:

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
The carrier you used is locked APN caused you can't edit APN.
This is a solution from other customer:
The workaround was to insert the temporary SIM with APN unlocked. Then it will allow to modify the APN. After saving the modified APN, restarted with the SIM to-be-used. I selected 'NO' to update the previousely stored APN upon reboot and it retained the modified APN, which now works with Lucky Mobile.
It looks there are only few carriers providing SIM with unlocked APN. One of them is Freedom Mobile and I'm lucky that I had the SIM from the previous account.

UMIDIGI

I have not tried that yet though, because it looks like I would have to set up a plan with them and I'd rather investigation other options first if possible. I also reached out to Speakout but I haven't heard anything back.

Thanks!

It looks to me that your SIM works fine. If the APN settings are not being correctly inputted, I blame the user or phone. Have you tried saving Rogers or Fido APN settings? Not sure why it is not saving. What do you have for a phone?

Just thought I'd ask here in case anyone has had similar issue. Have a new phone with android 8.1 texting works fine but the data doesn't. I've found that I can't correct the apn to the proper settings.

Am wondering if this could be due to my sim being over 8yrs old i think i have just kept cutting it down and it keeps working.

Will a newer speakout nano sim give correct APN settings? or is it just google being a bother not letting APN be added or changed?

Thanks!
