Android, out of the box, does not handle a proxy all that well. It only got usable after version 2.2 You would need to modify iptables to get programs to work though Speakout's proxy. There are programs out there like autoproxy that do just that. There may even be better ones, not into the Android scene, but I am sure other people here could be of better help.

A few niggles. You would have to configure your Android phone APN settings for Speakout browsing to work, and deal with iptables to get apps to work.

The C3 is an acquired taste. It has had some quality issues also. But the good ones seem to be liked.

Speakout has a deal now on $100 topups - $25 extra credit and 50% off a new phone.

I have a Speakout phone (with which I am very happy) but I am looking at buying an unlocked Android phone to support apps at a volunteer organization I work for. This will require the browsing package, so I'll be spending more coin and could use the bonus of the $125 voucher.

As well, my wife is tired of her phone. She has a Rogers pay-as-you-go but is using a slightly enhanced Motorola phone I bought once upon a time. She wants a phone with a full keyboard. (I do not understand this.)

So here is my plan: buy $100 voucher, get $125 credit for myself. Put my SIM in unlocked Android phone and apply voucher to it. Buy Nokia C3 for half price and give to wife. Let her use it with her Rogers SIM. Sell SIM for $5 to one of you. Recycle wife's old phone.

Are there any flaws in my plan? The Android phone is unlocked. My wife is on Rogers so it should be compatible with Speakout. And she doesn't have to use a Motorola with its inferior software any more. I think it makes sense. But I'm an old man, and would appreciate the input of your young brains. (mmmm, brains.)
