There might be a WM 6.5 app for GMail, not an avid WM user though. When using the Opera browser, GMail seemed to work fine. Could not stomach IE, so it was not used much!

Socks5 probably does not work. Just that no app is using socks so you are not running into any problem because of it.

I'm not sure that socks works - that's just the setting I see under "Connections". Can you suggest how I would test whether it works?

Is there an installable app for Gmail on WM 6.5 or do you go to the Gmail site in a browser? Telus provides a mobile version of their webmail site, although the UI is rather primitive.

There's a Facebook app pre-installed on the Omnia II. That's what doesn't work for me. Presumably it's trying to connect to the Facebook server using a port than SO blocks. (Not a big deal because I hardly ever use FB, but I just wanted to report everything I could find that did & did not work)

Cheers

You will not get POP3/SMTP email working directly. Easiest way to get email is to set up POP3/SMTP in a GMail account, and then use the GMail

Facebook should work. try either m.facebook.com. or https://www.facebook.com. If that does not work, is https configured?

Success!

It took quite a bit of fiddling but I now have data working on my Omnia II (WM 6.5).

Programs that work:
- Browsing (Opera & IE)
- Google Maps
- Midomi
- YouTube
- PocketPlayer (downloading podcasts)
- Windows Marketplace
- WeatherEye (from The Weather Network)

Programs that don't work:
- Email
- AppToDate
- Facebook

These both work with a WiFi connection. Could it be that they're trying to connect using a port that SO blocks?

Anyway, after following the instructions above, here are the extra changes I made. Not sure which of them are essential:

- In the advanced proxy settings for the connection, make both HTTP and WAP refer to 10.128.1.69:80 and make Socks refer to 10.128.1.69:1080. Secure WAP is blank.
- In the advanced settings for the connection:
- Turn off "Use software compression" and "Use IP header compression"
- Leave the IP and Server settings at "Use server-assigned xxx"
- In the Samsung Settings app, under Advanced Settings -> Connection:
- Browser Connection = Automatic
- GPRS Authentications -> SpeakOut = None

In order to be able to set the GPRS Authentication mode I had to add a DWORD registry key at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\SpeakOut] called NDISGPRSAuthType and set it to 1.

If anyone can figure out how to get POP3/SMTP email working (to telus.net in my case) I'd love to hear about it!

Cheers

I just activated "unlimited browsing" as well. I am trying to get it to work on my Samsung Omnia II (Windows Mobile 6.5)

No luck so far. I get a dialog titled Connecting... that says "Dialing: goam.com" but it doesn't succeed.

The settings in WM 6.5 are a bit different from those described for the BlackJack II. I'll try a couple of other variations but I think it may be no go.

I spoke to Customer Service and found out that:
- Blackberry users are no longer able to connect to SpeakOut's data service (can anyone confirm this?)
- You can get a full refund if you cancel the data plan within 48 hours of activating it (but you probably have to call 611 rather than cancelling it via the website)

Cheers

I apologize for reviving an old post. I have a Samsung Blackjack II that I am not able to get working for browsing or email. Sending text messages works well. Here's what I think is the issue. When I enter "wap" as password, then press "done", the passwors shows 16 asterisks, not 3. When trying to connect to the internet, I get the error message "remote user terminated connection".

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks!
Nancy

I have successfully configured Speakout on 2 different windows mobile phones, both were WM 6.1 though. I seriously doubt WM 6.5 all is that different. I am almost certain that configuration menu was removed by Bell, because it is exactly the type of shenanigans I would expect from the likes of Bell

When you mention "Settings/Connections/GPRS/New" is this completely within Samsung UI or are you using the standard Windows Mobile Connection Manager at all?

I do not own this phone, but I suspect this is another time Bell screwed you over. You will need to debrand your phone to stock firmware to get rid of the fecal matter Bell put on and removed from the phone.. I sadly, do not even know if this is possible, I just know what you have to do.

This link might help, but I have no way to know if it will work sadly. http://www.rapidgsm.com/samsun.....-firmware/

I have a Samsung Omnia II running WM 6.5. It was on the Bell network but is now unlocked and on Speakout.

I would like to set it up for data. I thought the procedure woud be similar to the one you used on the Blackjack, but the UI appears to be different. I can't find "Settings/Connections/GPRS/New"

In the Samsung Settings app on the Advanced tab there is a Connection item. If I go into that I see "Browser Connections", "Connections" , "Domain Enrollment", GPRS Authentications" and "Microsoft My Phone".

If I choose "Connections" it goes to the standard WM Connections dialog.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
