Coriolis, is the speakerphone mode on the 2720 any better than that of the 2760? Does the 2720 accept voice dialing? Thanks

1)Haven't used speakerphone mode on 2760 so cannot answer, sorry.
2)As far as I can tell 2720 doesn't accept voice dialing (has 1 touch dialing for #'s 2-9).

- Ability to use any MP3 file as a ringtone... as opposed to having to purchase officially-sanctioned ringtones. Even if I have to convert the MP3 to some other weird format, it's OK.

That's all I really care about... no need for fancy features.

I realize that the 2720 isn't even available via SO yet, so who knows how it will be configured, but any thoughts or informed speculation would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I picked up my 2720 yesterday (16th and MacDonald in Vancouver - they had 5 available). don't know about the first two questions (mac sync and lockout), but yes it can use mp3 ringtones. Good page here on how to make your own: http://lifehacker.com/212232/g.....om-any-mp3 . Takes a bit of messing about, but works as advertised.

All in all a nice little phone - a bit more stylish than the 2760 which I have purchased for my kids. On the pc the nokia pc suite software sync via bluetooth set up easily - with minimum fuss have been able to sync my outlook contacts and calendar to the phone. Also got it to work with a cheapo Jabra bluetooth headset ($10 from xs cargo) after some fiddling. The file manager in the pc software loads the phone as an external drive, so can copy files over to the "gallery" where mp3s and pictures are stored.

have not got the Nokia ovi player to install yet.. keeps failing. but with the very limited memory on the phone, honestly, this is not a real issue.

summary. pretty form factor, easy setup, very usable as a phone/pim, and my teenage daughter is jealous.

Folks,

1. 2760 has SIM locked, could only take SpeakOut, PetroCan, Rogers SIMs but not Fido. 2720 should be in line with the recent trend of SIM lock at SpeakOut. But it is a moot point for a GSM850/1900 even if they are unlocked, they work only in North America.

2. I cannot remember if you can set your own MP3 ringtones with 2760 as well as others in the line up since it is a "tradition" for most North American carriers, crippled this feature.

3. While we cannot even try out the 2720, but the 2760 is not quite up to my expectation. I mean it is ok but the build quality is so-so with different "feel" of plastic than some other Nokia counterparts, the lagging UI drives me nuts. Anyway, check out Steve Punter's review we have done way back then... http://www.arcx.com/sites/Noki.....202760.htm

The Nokia 2720 is DOA.

According to Speakout Customer Service the ringers are defective and the phones have been recalled. They won't be offering this phone or a comparably featured one this year so if you've been waiting on the $100 Airtime + free phone deal you better pick a different phone.

is there any advantage to get a 2720 over the older 2760?
I do love the 2760 I have (except the ear volume.. a little too low, and you have to place it on your ear just right...)
I'll be getting a new $100 airtime voucher, so want to pick the best "Extra" handset to have.. feature wise etc..

The 2720 is longer that the 2760, and larger when unfolded..mayb e even too large!

other features seem about the same..but maybe I'm wrong...
any advice?
.. Andrew

PS they will be available in Toronto Dec 18, according to the store I went to today.
