Well, my phone worked before I even subscribed to the data plan, so that would lead me to believe they are two completely different networks. Also, there is the odd occasion where my Edge (2G) conection will drop, yet my phone will still have four bars. Again, I'd be very surprised if the phone used 2G for the voice portion.

I don't subscribe to the SO data plan yet so I have no idea. Why don't you try it and let us know?

I have data turned on because I use wi-fi at home and work. I am still setting the BB up to make calls. As I said in the first post, the incoming calls were fine but I couldn't call out at all (not even voicemail or CS). Instead, I got a "congestion" notice. When I switched the network to 2G I could start making calls and still have wi-fi connectivity. Now I understand why.

Excuse my ignorance here but I have always been under the impression that 2G/3G corresponded to the data function only. Does the phone work over the 3G network as well? I was always under the impression that if I were to block access to the 2G or Edge network, my phone would continue to function.

Speakout is a 2G only service. Best you keep it set up like that, That you get any 3G at all is a testimonial on the quality of engineers Rogers employs. Monkeys would do a better job.

I recently inherited a Blackberry Bold 9000 (from the Rogers network) which receives calls just fine with my SO SIM in it, but won't make outgoing calls unless I switch the network from 3G/2G to 2G.

Am I missing something here? I'd appreciate any suggestions or solutions you might have.

Thanks for your help,
