If yours is also unlocked then it should work in Canada with a SO SIM. It should also work, with appropriate SIM(s) in all countries that have GSM networks.

Disclaimer: I don't have a BB of any model, let alone a 7290, so I can't say with absolute certainty that yours will or won't work in south Asia (or anywhere else.) But, in theory, it should.
