I would love to know the brand, model of alarm system you bought. I was thinking about setting up something similar for my parents' place.

Here is one on eBay where I bought it. About $ 47.00 and free shipping.
Type into eBay "GSM security system" and they will all come up.
There are some with a screen, which looks nice but requires a landline to make calls. The plain looking ones work via SIM GSM card. You can buy more window/door sensors etc on eBay to secure more windows/doors etc. Also you can add more PIR sensors. You must match everything to either a 315 Mhz or 433 Mhz system, you can not mismatch! Also you can buy more keyfob remotes for everyone in the family, cleaning lady etc.

Link for the least expensive, no bidding system: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Wi.....3a7966702b

Here is the complete eBay listing of over 1,000 items:

One last follow-up.

Just got around to setting up the alarm system with a bunch of wireless window-door sensors and a couple of PIR motion sensors.

Works like a charm using the 7-11 SIM card and set up to dial about 5 different phone numbers sequentially in case of a disturbance. It can also send SMS messages in addition to voice messages. I can also add a smoke detector to the system ( which I have on order) .Has a two way speaker capability I have to investigate how it works.

I did the activation online for the SIM card and the airtime without a hiccup.

Just wondering if your alarm system is professionally monitored? I believe professionally monitored GSM panels need GPRS (which sort of renders 7-11 SIMs useless in that regard).

Thoughts?

Use the IMEI you got with the phone. You might get $5 more credit, if you use a Speakout phone IMEI. Fortunately, Speakout does not tie the IMEI to the SIM, so you can use any compatible GSM device after you register the Speakout SIM

I can activate the SIM online here:

https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/my-account/activate-prepaid-phone

but it does ask for a 15 digit IMEI number.

Can I use the same IMEI I originally used to start on SO?

Don't know if this should be in a different thread.

I bought a home security system which can use a SIM card and dial any or all of three numbers in sequence until one number answers. This will happen if there is a break-in.

What I would like to know is obviously the system has no EMEI number. Could I use a GSM phone to activate the SIM card and add a $ 25.00 airtime card, obviously a phone not already in the SO system and then use it in the security system.

Any thoughts about this or suggestions.
