Greek Wizard,

Thanks for replying. That is not the case with my SIM. The SIM works on 3G with my Android phone. It can connect to 2G and 3G antenna using the Android phone. However, when inserting into the tablet, nothing get connected.

My theory is the APN may have not have been hardcoded into the SIM memory. And the only way is to set it up software wise in the Android Mobile Network Configuration setting. On my tablet, the Mobile Network Configuration does not appear unless a working data connection has been established.

Some older/original sims do not work for 3G, but work fine for EDGE (2G)…. even though some might say they do.

For proof see this post: https://www.speakoutwireless.ca/speak/phone-features/3g-iphone-getting-edge-data-only/?value=2888&type=9&include=1&search=1&ret=all

Hope that helps.

Hi,
I purchased two Nokia 1600 phone which I activated the SIM using the original Nokia phone originally. Years later when UMB came and now using an Android phone, I activate the UMB plan. I was able to add the APN into the Android Mobile Network Configuration. Everything is golden for both phones using UMB.

I recently tried the SIM on my phone on my friend's Rogers 3G tablet and it was not able to establish a working data connection on the tablet. I tried every which way I can with the SIM but the same thing happens. I even tried an old FIDO SIM and it detected it but requested an UNLOCK code since the tablet is not unlocked.

The weird thing is I tried the second 711 SIM used by my wife's phone and the tablet instantaneously detects it and establish a 3G connection.

My question is, what difference in the SIM would make it behave this way? Could it be the my own SIM does not have the APN configured in the SIM memory bank and my wife's SIM has it? Could it be just plain incompatible with the tablet? The tablet uses a standard SIM card.

Anyway help from 711 tech person roaming this site would be appreciated.

Regards,

Hiep
