I've had to use Nokia Mutimedia converter on the .Mp3s and Nokia pc suite via bluetooth. Downloaded ringtones and themes from http://www.zedge.net/ after signing up (It's free) and they work quite good. P.S I'm using a 2760
You have to run them through Nokia Multimedia converter than install into the phone as .awb files.Trust me that's what I've done.

I just got one of these phones, downloaded the appropriate Noke Suite software, and was able to transfer via File Manager mid and mp3 files I got free on internet or made myself and they worked just fine as ringtones. The manual for the phone also says this is supported.

In reply to my previous post, I have not been able to make my MP3 ringtones work. As per ky's post, the phone has copyright protection feature on the phones preventing users from doing what we're all trying to do. I figure our best bet is to find a software that fakes copyright protection to allow files to work on our phones. If someone knows how to do this, or if there is a different solution, Please, let us know.

->Let's face the facts; ringtone downloading is a multi-billion dollar a year industry and companies will do everything they can to garantee those sales, including paying phone manufacturers to include protection software on their phones. I suppose if I don't want to pay, or don't like the tones available for download, I'll just remain "un-cool" and stick with the "nokia tune" ring tone. 🙂

Below is written in the technical spec. of the phone:

Digital Rights Management:
OMA DRM Forward Lock
OMA DRM v1.0
DRM Delivery Method:
MMS
OMA Download
WAP Download

So, I think just drm mp3 ringtone would not work. It also needs to use the appropriate download methods. However, they are not available now. That means setting your own mp3 ringtone is not possible now.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

It's just a guess as of now, but I think it may have something to do with copyright protection. The MP3 I uploaded aren't protected while the ones that came with the phone are. It is the only thing difference between each files when looking at file "details"

I will look into changing this on my new MP3 ringtones and see if it works.

If anyone knows how to do this please let us know.

I will post later to update with my findings

Thanks for your response. As I said, the AMR format is far worse than mp3 in sound quality.

I hope someone knows how to tweak the mp3 file to be accepted as ringtone on 2760.
