The only problem I have is most of my calling is LD. It's cheaper to use Petro Can for LD.. I'm too lazy to use YAK as they don't have a local dial-in number for where I live.

They have a solution for that...

Use Yak's Callback Feature:

1. Dial 1-416-204-0004 and press send.
2. Hang up at the busy signal and Yak will call you back with a dial tone.
3. Answer, dial your long distance number, don't press SEND -- just start yakking!

1-416-204-0004 is a number that allows you to turn your outgoing calls into incoming airtime minutes. Callback was designed for users with unlimited incoming calls, but can be used by any registered Yak Cell user.

From anywhere in Canada, dial 1-416-204-0004 and simply hang up when the number rings busy. Because 1-416-204-0004 will always ring busy, you will never incur any long distance charges when placing the initial call. Yak will recognize your number and call you back with a dial tone. Simply enter your long distance number without pressing send. Start yakking! Your call will appear listed on your regular Yak invoice at Yak's low rates.

It would end up that you would get a new (PetroCan) phone number, and all your friends would be calling the guy that you did the switch with.

That could be intentional. Maybe he's trying to start a new life and wants to lose all of his previous friends. Besides the airtime for all those calls from old friends would get charged to whoever he sells his SO SIM to, not him 😉
