Text messaging is awesome on an iPhone, and all phone, text and voicemail functions work just fine.

Because it's jailbroken, there are hundreds more available applications and the few that I have loaded on there phone are a video camera app (works great, good audio/video quality), FaceBook, Photobucket and Wikipanion. If you are in a wifi hotspot, you can download apps right from the phone.

Includes a Speakout SIM (I'll set the area code for you), tested and ready to go with the $5 startup airtime, iPhone 1G 8GB, charger, USB cable and dock.
