Jeff,

Your phone number, airtime etc is tied to the sim card, not the phone. Your sim card is your identity on the network. So, if you put a Petro sim in a Rogers phone, all the network knows is that a Petro sim is accessing the network.

More importantly, read the sim card guide found on the home page of this site.

Hello. Instead of a creating a new thread, this seems like a good place for my question.

I have a PetCan mobile phone. As previously stated in this thread a Rogers phone will work with a PetCan SIM. But what does that mean exactly? If I got a Rogers phone and installed my PetCan SIM into it, what happens then? Is my phone number, airtime, etc... automatically moved to the new Rogers phone or is there something else I would need to do?

Maybe this is a silly question, but I really don't know much about this stuff.

Thanks

You still see a 'Rogers" splash screen on startup - but once on, it shows it as Petro-Can network.

General comment: The "splash" is part of the customization that the phone manufacturer installs for the carrier. You cannot remove it without making firmware changes. (You can also buy "unbranded" unlocked GSM phones that have the manufacturer's splash.)

The network name changes as you roam from one network to another. For example I have European SIMs where the network name changes from country to country. They show "Rogers" when roaming in Canada.
