Thanks for the feed back, I may actually just get an IPhone with rogers and stop using the prepaid petro phone. I do nature photography for a magazine and their are some excellent apps I could use for IDing birds etc along with just general image submissions etc from the field.

To be frank, nothing Petro Canada sells would give anything close to a decent web browsing experience. You can most certainly get a good unlocked GSM phone and use the Petro Canada sim on that. You need to configure some APN setting, but that is about it. I personally like my Nokia e71, but there are a lot of good choices out there. If you see one you like, give us a shout to see if it is suitable.

The Petro Canada people do not care what you have for a phone, just ask for a data plan, and when they say it will not work on your phone, just say you have one that is data capable. They will set it up and you will be good to go.

I have an older petro phone that does not support internet. Are any of the current petro phones decent for web browsing. If so could I just take out my current sim card; install it in the new phone and call petro to have the unlimited internet added.
