I bought my Google Nexus a couple of years back from Wind. I switched to SO b/c of UMB and the expiry date of deposits, which for Wind was way crappier than a full year. UMB was a great deal, even after speed declined considerably. However, w/o UMB, and the meager 100 MB you get for $10, SO has rendered itself slightly irrelevant and less than competitive. I'll try Wind Tablet for $10 / 1GB side by side with SO 100 MB and, if Wind is the way it was when I left them, I'll let my SO card expire.

The problem with Wind is the expiry date on deposits (which can't be $10) and less coverage - and an aggressive community constantly engaging in d*** wars on GetSupport, last I checked. However, they have coverage where I need it and if all I need is their data, the expiry date is not a problem.

In my testing this far, VoIP works well on both SO and Wind to the point where it's indistinguishable. I am using a paid provider that gave me a free trial (Fongo has poorer quality most of the time and I find it to be unreliable). I pay less than $20 / month for VoIP, but that includes an iNum, a toll-free number for my business, a few local numbers in Canada, one in US and one in an European country.

You would have to use Fongo or get a phone plan. Wind has a $30/month plan that offers unlimited province-wide calling, unlimited Canada-wide text, and unlimited data.

I'm in Wind yesterday for the 1Gb data $10/month. the SIM card is free. and it is repaid. so if you don't want continue it, just throw it.

I always use Fongo as my calling app. so for last couple of years, I only use $10 on Speakout for unlimited calling, message and internet. now Wind is good for 1G. only bad is Wind's coverage. So I decided use Wind and Speakout together. This will still cost me about $12 for everything.

Bell and Telus have flex Tablet data plans for $20 for 1 gig. You can of have to be sneaky to them though if you are using a cell phone on them. I said I was going to use it on multiple devices, and I already have a voice plan, and they eventually relented.

Virgin prepaid sells a 512 meg data plan for $20, which is less hassle.

You will not get a black Friday deal on data. Maybe on a phone, but the airtime is never a good deal during the holidays. You get those deals when people do not have money after xmas, or the summer when no one is buying.
