With SpeakOut though, ANY top-up lasts 365 days, not just the $100 top-up. SpeakOut was designed for light users. As for the All Day plan, that might be ok for some, but I would think most cell phone calls are 5 minutes or less anyways. At least they are for me.

Since I would paying either SpeakOut or Rogers $0.25/minute for those first 5 minutes, I would rather give SpeakOut the business than Robbers (Rogers).

I think SpeakOut is the best value in the prepaid market. I am not saying that just because I am a moderator here, but I have researched them all.

Roger's Pay as you go is better if you buy your time in $100 denominations to get the 365 day expiration. You can also sign up for the All Day plan, which only charges 25 cents a minute for the first 5 min you use each then, then 15 cent each min afterwards. This might be better depending on your talking pattern.

Calm down and lower case please.

I have used CC and I don't think they charge extra. Only Chinese Computer stores/Travel agents will charge you extra 3% if CC is used.

If you are on a Rogers plan, you don't have to buy the whole SO package, as you stated it. Just a SO sim, and a SO voucher. Your Rogers phone will work fine with SO.

He's saying that you can use a Rogers SIM card in a SO phone. That doesn't get you SO service. You will still be a Rogers customer and pay them for airtime. If you want to be a SO customer then you need a SO SIM and purchase airtime from them. Because they share the same cellphone network, a SO SIM will also work with a phone that's locked to the Rogers network and will let you use your SO account.

Think of when and how often you are going to be using the cellphone. Then you'll see if a "same rate anytime of the day or week" plan is best for you (then choose Speakout), or if it will be cheaper to use one of the specific Rogers plans, then choose Rogers.

I don't go to a 7-11 every couple of months. My top-up lasts a year, so once is year is no problem for me. It's true that 7-11's SO phone selection is barebones, but you don't need a SO phone to use the SO service. A SO sim in an unlocked phone (that uses the 850/1900mHz North American bands) will work just fine.

Hi,

I'm currently on a monthly plan and I don't use my phone enough to justify it and I'm just starting to look at Pay As You Go options.

I've narrowed it down to SO and Rogers.

SO Pros:
-$25+ top-up = 365 day duration
-backed on Rogers network

SO Cons:
-have to go to a 7-eleven to buy top-up card, can't do so online or by credit card
-lack of phone selection; understandable

Rogers Pros:
-can top-up via credit-card or debit and online
-more plan selections to choose from (http://www.rogers.com/web/cont.....aygo_rates)
-better phone selection

Rogers Cons:
-$100 top-up = minimum 365 day duration

---

I like SO's top-up options, but I think their phones are a little too basic and the inconvenience of having to go to a 7-11 to buy a voucher could be a deal-breaker.

I know most of you are on SO, but do you think it is inconvenient to go to a 7-11 every couple of months to top-up?
